What Causes
Acne
What causes acne? All cases of acne are caused by the disorder of the
pilosebaceous units. These pilosebaceous units are made up of a hair follicle, sebaceous gland and hair. They can
be found all over the body except on the palms, soles, top of the feet and lower lip.

What causes acne?
What causes acne is not exactly known. However, there are many factors that
contribute to the causes of acne. The bacterium P. acne is what causes acne. Acne happens when oil glands
become active and they block the opening of the pores of the skin. The build up of oil causes the bacteria to
multiply and that is what causes acne. What causes acne inflammation? It is when the bacteria multiplies and
the skin surrounding it is inflamed. What causes acne has been debated by many people... some doctors believe one
thing while others believe something quite different.
Here are some factors that are said to contribute to acne but they do not actually
cause acne by themselves.
-
Heredity is said to be a factor in what causes acne.
Except for some cases of severe acne, most people do not have the same problem as their parents. Almost
everyone has gone through experiencing acne.
-
Stress is another factor that is said to be
what causes acne. Although stress does not really play a direct role in causing acne, there are some people
who find themselves picking on their pimples when they are stressed so the pimples last
longer.
-
Our parents often tell us to
avoid greasy foods like pizza, too many sweets like chocolates and junk foods. Food is another factor that
is said to be what causes acne. Recent studies have found out that milk and other dairy products increase
acne formations. However, these findings have never really been
established.
-
Dirt is
another factor that causes acne. Blackheads are oxidized oil and not dirt. Sweat does not really cause
acne so it is not necessary to shower after you exercise. There is no need to fear that your sweat will
clog your pores. But remember, when you wash your skin too often, it can cause dryness and irritation to
your skin.
-
Some brands of cosmetics are comedogenic or non pore clogging. Among the brands, those
that are listed as water-based or oil free are good choices.
-
Some women break out when their period is near. There are times
that oral contraceptive pills can help in the reduction of acne. If a woman has irregular menstrual
periods and excessive growth of hair, hormones are less likely to cause acne. Pregnancy has also an
effect on acne. In some cases, women report that they were relieved of their acne while
others say that their acne just got worse when they were pregnant. Others do not notice any
significant change at all.
-
In some cases, pressure plays a part in contributing
to the formation of acne. Pressure from collars, suspenders and the like may add to
acne.
-
Some drugs can cause or add more to
the acne. Those drugs which contain iodides, bromides and oral or injected steroids may aggravate
acne. Other drugs that can also aggravate acne are those anticonvulsants and drugs for bipolar
disorders such as lithium. But most causes of acne are not related to
drugs.
-
The nature of the work
a person does may also contribute to the aggravation of
acne.
What causes acne?
If you cannot totally eliminate
acne, you can at least reduce it. You can do this by changing your lifestyle, working on your diet and keeping your
body clean.
